Attendance Woes at NCAA Tourney? You deadbeats!

leave a comment »

Good news for Tulsa! There is bad news simmering about the NCAA Tournament in Tulsa and the local media bloggers are trying to spin it. No doubt YOU will be blamed for not attending each and every game!

The twittersphere is abuzz with the fact that most of the upper section of the City of Tulsa Civic Arena  has remained unoccupied for many of the games.  This has lead one Tulsa World blogger to do a cost analysis and basically it boils down to tickets costing about 30% more than the last time the NCAA was in town (like 1930).

So now the media blogosphere is reporting that there is more to the NCAA tournament coming in than ticket sales, that restaurants, hotels, et al are also generating revenue.  This is true: hooray for Tulsans! The bad news is that poor ticket sales may discourage the NCAA from holding games in Tulsa in the future.

Just wait for the recriminations to start, Tulsan! The primary suspect in this failure will be 1) you deadbeats who do not want to shell out $80 for a couple of games 2) you deadbeats who do not want to spend tax dollars for crap downtown to make Tulsa more of a destination for out-of-towners and 3) you deadbeats who do not care.

We hope that a lot of people are turned on to T-Town and that the numbers are good. If not, you know who is to blame.
